This town offers little pedestrian spaces or proper protections. When raising concerns these are dismissed. Events are uninteresting and the overall scenic spaces are lacking. Public transit is also really badly planned/executed. You need a car to even go get groceries, this is the least walkable city I have lived in.

It’s odd but I was just harassed on my motorcycle in Granby and I remember an incident that happened in Blainville. I am a 68 year old veteran I am clean cut no tattoos no piercings or any patches on my jacket, me and a friend where travelling through Blainville, both of our motorcycles are Harley Davidson that are 100% stock. We where pulled over for noise and then harassed by a incompetent Police officer. He ticketed my veteran friend for his helmet and his stock exhaust being loud, and I received a illegal helmet ticket, our helmets did not have a clear coating over the DOT sticker that proved this helmet met the legal requirements in Quebec. Our helmets where a brand that is designed in Montreal and sold through a Canadian distributor. Not only was our helmets legal DOT helmets, there is nothing in the text of the DOT requirements stating this so called clear coating. Not only was our helmets 100% DOT approved helmet as per Quebec law, they also met the Snell approval under Quebec law and the ECE approval by Quebec law, I tried to show this to the Police officer but it just made him angry, this officer had no idea of the laws are on helmets or exhaust. I had to call my wife because we where not allowed to drive because we did not have legal helmets. My brother came to bring the bikes home in has pick up.

I went to court to fight my ticket, I had printed the Quebec helmet laws, the DOT USA laws and the Snell and ECE standards and proof that the helmet meets all three requirements from each organization. The prosecutor was calling names and talking to everyone who had a ticket. My turn came and I told him I was not guilty and had proof. He had the Police officer there and a member of the Quebec provincial Police SQ as a expert, he had a binder with the DOT regulations. And was in his SQ uniform.

It was helmet day 90% of the people there where there for helmet infraction. All of the people who had lawyers went first and MANY charges where dropped because the ticketed persons had lawyers. I was surprised because there where many beanie style helmets that where no thicker than 10mm, the little I knew about helmets I never saw such thin helmets that was legal. The thinnest DOT helmets are more than 20 millimeters thick. I was asked by the Provincial Police SQ expert to show him the helmet, I also gave proof of the Snell, DOT and ECE that the helmet passed. He questioned me and I was honest with him with all my proof.

Well I waited all day before my name was called just to tell me they could not review my case that day and I would have to get a other date. The prosecutor brought me to his office with the Blainville Police officer and the so called helmet expert from the SQ. I was very uncomfortable in the room and soon realized that no one in that room was my friend, the Blainville Police officer was extremely angry that I had stayed all day and forced him to stay and that I was trying to prove he did know the helmet laws. And the SQ officer stated that the DOT sticker was too high by 4mm and therefore was not legal, he showed me the law but he had a older version of the DOT standard and showed him the dated newer allowed different distances from the bottom and he was incorrect. The two Police officers were more intent that I plead guilty and could care less if my helmet was legal or not. Then the prosecutor went on a angry tangent about he did not want motorcycles in Blainville in fact he hated being passed by motorcycle with loud exhaust.

I was blown away, what he was saying is he was letting his personal views affect his decision and could care less what I had as proof, I looked at the officers while the prosecutor went on about motorcycles. The prosecutor then said since I won’t just plead guilty that I will be forced to go to the front desk and get a new date to return and fight my ticket. Both officers saw how illegal the prosecutor was acting and said or did nothing they actually where both angry, the Blainville Police officer was even swearing at me, I got a new date but charges where dropped later
