Extremely Unprofessional and Unethical Conduct

If you’re considering hiring Helen Sterling Clarke, I strongly urge you to reconsider. Based on my experience, Helen demonstrated serious incompetence, dishonesty, and unethical behavior that caused significant harm to my legal matter.

Throughout my time working with her:

•She claimed to have filed documents that were never filed
•Missed critical service and filing deadlines
•She did not respond to time sensitive or urgent communications from me or the opposing counsel
•Submitted documents with incorrect court information
•Repeatedly delayed my case, then blamed the courts and others instead of taking responsibility
•She did not show up for important court dates citing last-minute vacation plans. •She was unprepared for hearings and dishonest about our communications, for example, we had a 5-minute call and she billed me for 3 hours. In the days leading up to court, she was completely unreachable, even to the opposing party.

Worse still, she sent me multiple incorrect invoices, claimed she "forgot" to add charges, and then had her clerk bombard me with emails, not to resolve anything, but to pad her file and inflate her bill when I raised concerns. This was manipulative and abusive of her position.

What’s even more alarming: according to the Law Society of Ontario’s public record, Helen Sterling Clarke has a history of mismanaging client funds and trust accounts. My experience sadly reflected this, there was a clear lack of transparency, poor service, and what appeared to be a calculated effort to confuse and overwhelm with unnecessary correspondence and fabricated paper trails.

Several critical documents that she charged me for, including support orders and court orders, were never completed or filed. These had to be corrected by new legal counsel at additional cost to me.

This lawyer is not only negligent and unprofessional, she poses a serious risk to vulnerable clients who rely on their lawyer to act in their best interest.

If you’ve had a similar experience, please file a complaint with the Law Society of Ontario. It’s important they know how she continues to mishandle cases and client funds with impunity.

Words cannot express my gratitude toward Sterling Law; particularly, my lawyer, Ms. Fasiha Khan.

I first contacted Sterling Law years ago, regarding a family court issue. It was my first time dealing with such, and I had no idea how to proceed. My initial consult with Helen was great. I explained my situation, and she was very kind and understanding. She immediately recommended Fasiha, saying that she would be perfect to assist with my case.

I was told by other people not to expect much from a lawyer who accepted a legal aid certificate. Helen assured me, during our initial intake, that Fasiha would fight just as hard for me, as she would for a non legal aid case.
Helen was absolutely right.

My case has been ongoing for years, now. From day 1, Ms. Khan has been so understanding and supportive of my case. I have no doubt that she put just as much effort into my case, as she would any other case, not covered by legal aid.

She has been so empathetic through it all, and I honestly don't know how I would have made it this far, without her ongoing support. Ms. Khan encouraged me when needed (which was often!), and helped me gain confidence in myself while dealing with these court proceedings.

At our last trial date, as we parted ways, Ms. Khan gave me a hug and said that she was proud of me, and that I am a good mother. I was so amazed that she took the time to continue encouraging me, even when our case was nearly finished. It was something I needed to hear, and I am so grateful to her for saying so.

I highly recommend this firm, and particularly, Ms. Khan, for any family court needs.

I have had the worst experience with Helen, I provided her my documents when I represented myself, for Helen to have in Idea in what was going on, I was with Helen June 2022 I believe and NOTHING was done, NOTHING was presented to the courts at anytime, still no child support , you have to keep an eye on Helens billing due to her over charging , I had a 10 min phone call and Helen charged me 2hrs.I had my friend in the car with me, so a witness, and still no change on my bill, I have emailed many time about this, I am so disappointed in the service(if that is what you call it) , Helen will also call and drag the call. I am in owing's, Helen told me that she was going to put a lean on my house which I'm fighting for still with my ex, and Helen didn't do so, because now I have interest on my bill!!!. I can keep going on , but not worth it. and my personal documents were not returned to me when I had to have the gov help me. Helen dried my account.
