Where to begin... in short. The worst experience of my life. I had my first claim as a homeowner and Service Master did a fantastic job of prolonging the misery of losing one's home. The most concerning part was my Project Manager, Troy. He is overwhelmed easily and literally disappeared for weeks with no contact. Calling the office for the very minimal and basic customer service was not a very pleasant experience either. No one knows what is going on. The favourite excuse was they had another emergency to deal with... which may be true, but they have no plans to help you until you start calling daily at a very minimum. Hopefully Troy develops the skills in the coming years, to be able to fulfill his role one day, but for now, I don't think Troy could manage a shopping list let alone overseeing repairs. I will tell you to honestly STAY AWAY from this company. They will be on you daily to get the contracts signed for the insurance money and that's when they disappear (because what can you do, once you signed the repair contract?) Nothing.... and they know that. My job took over 4 months (after my small basement of 700 sq ft was estimated to take 4-6 weeks). This company is just unbelievable. The quality of the repairs under Troy's watchful eye, would have been on par with recruiting some kids from a grade 9 shop class... honestly, you would be better off.

What a horrible experience from start to finish. The company has no integrity and will prey on whatever misfortune you have experienced.
I understand that it was an extremely busy time for all the restoration companies after the ice storm but they took advantage of that. Our insurance company had someone from Servicemaster come in about a week after the power was restored because that was the soonest they could get here. We understand the delay as it was a busy time for them. We started removing the carpet before the crew came because the smell was horrible. We were told they could only quote in $5000 increments and said it would be between $10000 and $15000 to do the remediation only. My wife and I continued to remove half the carpet in the basement, remove all the doors, remove all the baseboards, remove the vanity prior to the crew getting there to keep the cost down because our insurance coverage was low.
The crew came into the house and removed the remaining carpet, cut the drywall up 24" (which should have been higher than that so we had to re cut it) and removed the tile from the washroom. They sprayed for mould and put our contents in a storage pod in our driveway. They cut 2" off of our wainscotting as discussed and that was almost half of the basement. They also removed some of the door trim.
After the Servicemaster crew left, we had to remove all the thinset from where they removed the tile, we had to remove the remaining tile and the toilet they left in, we had to remove a bunch of nails they left from the trim.
We contacted Service Master 6 times over 50 days to find out what the invoice was so we would know how much insurance money would remain for us to rebuild with our limited insurance coverage and our calls went unanswered.
After escalating this with our insurance company to get answers we finally heard from Service Master. We were told the price is $26000 including our $4000-$5000 content loss. ($6000-$7000 higher than the top end of the quote).
To sum up, we were told $10000-$15000. We were told it would take a crew 4 days.
We proceeded to do a bunch of work ourselves to keep the cost down. The crew was here for 3 days not the 4 as discussed. After the crew left, we had to do further stuff that was left unfinished and the price is $6000-$7000 more than the high end.
All I was told is thats what it is for a 2000 square foot basement. (The basement is about 1500 square feet)

Worst company! We had a flood in our basement and Service Master was scheduled to do the emergency work which included drying out the walls and setting up fans, as well as cutting out damaged dry wall and spraying chemicals. It’s been 6 weeks since the flood and SERVICE MASTER STILL HASN’T COME! What kind of emergency work is done almost 2 months later when things have already dried out themself!!! Please don’t bother replying with the lame excuse “you can’t find my name in your records…..” like the Orillia location did. There is a reason for that as I’m writing for my partner (who’s name it’s under) and I, and we reside in Moonstone, ON.

We finally contacted HALCYON RESTORATION who came instantly and had the work done in 2 days! I cannot recommend this company enough! Lovely people and all workers are certified!

DO NOT USE SERVICE MASTER as they provide ZERO service!!! I find it ironic they call themselves any kind of master. Worst ever!!!!

Once we contacted them they were over tbe very same day to evaluate and also come in to start with remediation. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast this step was completed.

Troy is just incredible. Given how stressful the situation is, he was very personable, knowledge, and precise. He was on the ball with all the contractors that came in and the ladies in his office are also very friendly, organized and quick to answer questions and call to arrange everything. Even the workers, like Michael who helped with the tear down, was so friendly and happy to answer any questions I had even if they were silly or naive, all with a smile and excellent customer service. If I had another incident (which hopefully not, as much as I loved working with them) I would call ServiceMaster in a heartbeat.

I highly recommend Service Master to everyone going through the trauma of a flood or whatever. Andrew and his staff were very helpful every step of the way. We had our basement flooded and they came to our place within three hours to set up the fans etc. They dealt with our insurance adjuster and the renovation company they provided us with was the best! Left the place clean at the end of the day and were able to guide me on our renovation decisions. I recommend Star-Tech Renovations whole heartedly. Thank you to Andrew and crew!!!!

We can't thank the team at ServiceMaster enough for the work they did at our house when our basement flooded. The initial response was quick and they took swift action to remediate. Kevin, our Project Manager and the entire office team were incredible with creating a plan for us and communicated regularly. Chris and the team that executed the work at our house were also great. They were respectful of our space and completed the work at a high level. I would absolutely recommend ServiceMaster Midland!
