1/5 Stars - Safety is a Major Concern (Not Recommended)

I visited the Port Alberni ICBC office recently to update my information and had an extremely negative and concerning experience related to the safety and cleanliness of the entrance area.

The main entrance was blocked by several individuals, some of whom appeared to be homeless, actively doing drugs (specifically mentioning plastic crack pipe tubes seen), and yelling/swearing at the ICBC staff and customers attempting to enter.

I had to physically walk through an area of dried vomit just to access the building, stepping over drug paraphernalia on the ground. This creates a very unsafe and hostile environment. I observe this homeless set up in front of the building almost every day.

This is highly unacceptable for a government service office. I strongly advise against bringing children here. The lack of security and the presence of dangerous activities directly at the entrance make this location feel extremely unsafe.

Can get quite busy, but I've had outstanding help from some of the ladies in there, they've gone above and beyond to help me correct some things with my driver's license...

The wait was a bit of a snooze ( literally lol) being middle of the week I was 10th in line, yes 😮 , the lady that helped me was named Phyllis I đŸ€” think, anyways she was so pleasant and helpful, she made the wait well worth it. One thing to consider is this office handles BOTH your driving and I.D needs as well as clients with income supports so it can be challenging waiting through people who are not there for simple business or signatures, so these employees deserve a break on any attitude that may develope when frustrating wait times get absurd. The place was clean and tidy and the security guard did a great job handling a child with a little too much sass. So bottom line? Go early if your impatient, and a smile goes a long way. We're all human 😉 .

I went in at lunch time to update the address on my licence. I was in and out within 5 minutes and the staff person that helped me was friendly and efficient.

I’ve always thought our office here in town was gracious and friendly, the security guard (a good friend after so many years ) was always very friendly and happy to see me. I most of the time was treated fairly here. As for the two I was forced to use in Vancouver, I was appalled at how the people were treated there. Myself included, my mother raised me to “kill’em with kindness, then they can’t use anything against you. I always agreed, until one day in Vancouver, I got so sick of seeing their posters of how we MUST treat them or suffer even more poverty stricken denial ability, and then thrown outside without any fairness or ability to defend our right to respectfully say to the social worker who “helped me” that day, but instead decided to ban me even though I never once raised my voice, broke or disregarded any of their so called “mutual respect “ your suppose to be shown, and then even worse, after I was banned I was deferred to this third party place I’d never heard of before for one full year. It’s been well over since even though I was denied the information on how to have the ban review before I was subjected to it, then even worse, when the one year mark came about, the women that worked there were the worst I have ever encountered, disrespectful, unprofessional, and again I was denied the information on where I was to go to speak to their superiors, or what office I speak with about how they conduct themselves at their level of work. I’m still banned from speaking to anyone face to face even though, I’ve never broken one of their policies in the first place and now I live back in Port Alberni. So I’ve been oppressed now by services bc, for the last two years.
I’m not sure to this day who I am to speak to, to lift the ban that was illegitimately passed on me and I was forced into oppression because these women in the Vancouver office would refuse who I speak to above them. I’m just appalled at how they conduct themselves there, completely ignorant and disgraceful and I wish I could have reported them to their superiors office, because they mistreat people there so badly.
