Had a consultation in May regarding varying a parenting order, due to mother's lack of involvement in parenting. He was wearing pajamas, and there were empty liquor bottles all over his home "office". We decided to not judge, because we thought he might be really good in court.
When we showed up to drop our child off for mother's parenting time at the end of July, we discovered her suite had been emptied due to eviction, and she went no-contact for a couple weeks. We sent R. Billingsley the retainer, and shared our desire to move forward with the case immediately. Communication with Billingsley started out alright; he asked if we wanted to be proactive or reactive and said he would start drafting the papers that evening. Yet, he did not follow through and ceased to provide updates. During this time, we sent our friends to him for their own case regarding abandonment. Billingsley increased their amount of his retainer, claiming a file involving CFS (on their side) would be more costly. He shared with our friends that he had picked up more work and hadn't shared the retainer increase with us yet. One day we arrived at his home "office" to drop off documents, to have a man who appeared to be under the influence of drugs answer the door. Red flag.
After weeks of radio silence, we researched Billingsley a little more and discovered his multiple citations through the Law Society of Alberta for misconduct and over-charging. More red flags. We began looking for an alternative lawyer, and discovered that he was infamous for not responding and being highly unprofessional. When his name came up, people would quickly give eachother knowing glances. Final red flag.
Our friends received text messages that he was in the hospital and would be refunding their retainer. They showed up to pick up their cheque, and he answered the door wearing a basketball jersey, thick gold chains, and bright red hair (not looking very professional whatsoever). When going to cash their cheque, the bank manager asked about his appearance, and referenced his sketchy past behaviours, and put a code on the transaction to guarantee the cheque wouldn't bounce. Billingsley finally reached out to us to share he was planning on taking a holiday shortly, so we requested our retainer be returned. We received a portion of our retainer back; while nothing had been done to further our case, he kept about $1500 for opening the file, a couple <5 minute phonecalls, and a couple <20 word emails. We had hoped that he would have been a shark for us, as other's had reviewed. Unfortunately, his actions (or lack thereof) ended up leaving a bad taste in our mouths and a hole in our pocket. Judging from his behaviours, it seemed like we had funded his partying for a month. As some of his reviews sound promising, we suggest approaching with caution and doing further research before retaining him.

I had an appointment with Ron for a consultation. I drove in from Tofield and when Ron answered the door, he dismissed me, saying his computer got hacked. Apparently he forgot to call and cancel. I phoned the following Tuesday as agreed, now it’s Friday. Still haven’t got a call back. Not sure how his lawyer skills are and I guess I’ll never find out. Thanks for wasting my time and the lost wages Ron. Very unprofessional.

Ron was our lawyer for our family relocation case. I Have three kids and 2 wanted to relocate with us. I am with the CAF and Ron has an excellent understanding of what needs to be done in an extremally short amount of time when it comes to postings. When first meeting Ron he may not look like the usual lawyer that you would see in a law firm but rest assured once you see him in court you will know that his skills and knowledge are above par. His ability to understand his clients and fight for them at trial is incredible, he knew the law, he applied the law, and he showed the judge how it truly is in our kids best interests to come with us and be in our primary care. Ron hit it home in his closing statements and won the case for us.

Without Ron I don't think our case would of gone the way that it did, he honestly is the best family lawyer I have ever worked with or witnessed in Court. Even with a narcissistic ex, Ron was un wavered and was able to see through all the bull s*it, call it out and show it to the court.

We hired Ron in April for our Mobility case. My husband and I are military, and we got hit with a posting out of the province, we share 3 kids with my husbands ex wife. Our youngest two (11 and 5) wanted to relocate with us while our oldest (13) wanted to stay with their mother. We knew it was in our children’s best interests to move with us but we had to prove it and while all the odds were stacked against us, Ron helped us and guided us and fought for us and our kids. He got us in for an emergency hearing and worked tirelessly on our case. He laid everything out, he was honest and open about our chances and he provided us with the best advise.
