I'm in the middle of dealing with them currently. We had a straight-forward (what I assumed) refinancing our mortgage. We were told the close date would be October 3, they were to pay off our debt and were told the remaining funds would be deposited into our account October 4. October 4 came and went. It was a Friday so we decided to give it to weekend, and questioned them on October 7. They informed us that there was a "delay" and that closing would now be October 11. Our mortgage company has no idea why the close was pushed. It was convenient to sign everything online but I'm not impressed with the lack of communication. We shouldn't have had to chase them to find out what's going on with closing and paying off our debts. We have dealt with many different people in the office, though we've never actually spoken with the actual lawyer, just his many assistants. The situation has caused a lot of anxiety for me, and I'm just thankful we weren't in a situation where we were selling and buying because delaying closing by a week could be horrific. Maybe they don't care about us because we don't necessarily have that type of deadline, but they should treat all their clients equally.
