A cozy neighborhood library that I’m happy to have nearby. Weekend visits are popular, so the small space and limited reading seats fill up fast. Staff are friendly and always ready to help track down a book or place a hold. My only gripe: conversations sometimes get loud in the designated quiet area, and a gentle reminder from staff would help keep the space peaceful. Overall, a solid stop for quick browsing—just be prepared for a tight fit during peak hours.

I recently had a disappointing interaction with a librarian named Betty at the Port Moody Library. I called to address a situation where a person was taking a phone call for over 30 minutes in the study area, disrupting the peace. According to the library's policy, cell phone use and loud conversations are prohibited to maintain a quiet and respectful environment for all patrons. However, Betty astonishingly defended the disruptive individual, stating that it was acceptable since the library is a "public place."

It was baffling to hear such a response from someone representing a library. Libraries are indeed public spaces, but they are fundamentally different from places like cafés, where noise is expected. Betty's lack of awareness of the library’s own policies was troubling. Thankfully, her manager later clarified that these rules are indeed in place, but it’s concerning that a librarian was not familiar with them in the first place.

The role of a librarian should include upholding the library's standards and ensuring a comfortable space for all patrons. Betty’s approach not only contradicted this but also showed a disregard for those trying to study or focus. I hope the Port Moody Library takes steps to ensure its staff are better trained on enforcing policies that protect the quiet and welcoming environment libraries are meant to provide.

Port Moody’s sole library. Friendly staff and good selection of books. Decent programming and I’m looking forward to my upcoming intro to felting workshop (how cool?!). Limited space and meeting rooms as the population of Port Moody has resulted in a lot of pressure on this small facility.

I totally agree with below Max Babaee's review about the Port Moody Public Library. This library has changed a lot like a Public Market now, or anything else but a Public Library. Some library users kept talking to their phones without any respect for the library policy, while the working crew just ignore without any interruption. Seems to me that the crew remembers just ignore all these Library policy purposely, simply because this library is small, crowded, and more visitors daily than years' ago, so they did not remind or do anything to keep this reading environment quiet any more. Again, this noise is absolutely not about the scheduled ESL courses, and toddlers' story-time which are totally acceptable. The key point is that NO one should talk to their phone within the library at all, and the staff should do something to help get this improved. Thank you.

Nice smaller-sized library, lots of study spaces with outlets, friendly staff. Can get loud with kids programs being run there sometimes.

I found the library to be quite noisy, which makes it challenging to study or work effectively. The children's classes and adult English classes create a lot of background noise, even if you sit in the quiet rooms. It’s puzzling why the door to the adult English class remains open, and it seems unnecessary for the instructor to speak so loudly. Overall, this environment is not conducive to productive studying
