I was not happy with the level of service I received at this office and would never come here again. I had services done in 2024. Multiple errors on documents I had to point out twice, incorrect spelling information when I had to send a cheque to minister of finance, different answers to the same question about selling a house, response times very slow, and they tried to upcharge me for the services then originally quoted. They said they did more work but they had not and I had proof of the original agreement so they had to rescind the higher bill attempt. Booking appointments is done through specific assistants and twice I asked to book an appointment with my lawyer and no one ever phoned me back. I was very disappointed in the lack of professionalism and attention to detail from this lawyer. My advice is to do diligent research and read reviews before choosing a lawyer as I just went off of a recommendation.

I was using this firm for the month of May 2024. In that time the Invoice gobbled up my $5000 retainer, gave a certified copy of the original Will ,appeared to use our story as curriculum for the student training . We made almost no progress in our Estate litigation. Invoice states continuously: instruct articled student, instruct office clerk ,lots of legal research for student . Found another Firm . So many poor reviews for lawyers in Victoria. What happened to justice for clients?

At a time when I was in mourning, the lawyer who met with me was kind, professional, and extremely helpful throughout the whole process of dealing with will/ estate issues. My experience with Horne Coupar in September 2023 did not meet an acceptable standard from what I understood to be the largest estates firm in Victoria. After an initial meeting with an HC lawyer regarding assistance with Grant of Probate for my brother's estate, I agreed to hire them and was told to expect a Letter of Engagement.

A week went by without receiving it so I sent an email to the lawyer to inquire. The lawyer replied the next day and attached the Letter with the excuse that their paralegal had been sick. It incorrectly referred to my father's accounts instead of my brother's. When I pointed out this error, they apologized and cited they were "rushing to accede to your request", noted the continued absence of the paralegal and, for those reasons, had drafted the letter themselves. Based on this experience I decided to not engage them.

Horne Coupar had possession of the original will and I was told that should I not engage them "we would ask that you first pay the statement of account for time spent in your brother's file to date. Once that is paid, we will return your brother's wills to you." For the initial meeting and the incorrect Letter of Engagement I was billed $925.05 (full disclosure: they provided 2 notarized copies of the will and death certificate "as a courtesy").

Good, basic information was provided on probate but the review scores one star due to the inaccurate work, the excuses and for holding the wills hostage pending payment of fees.

I am in absolute shock horror at the unprofessionalism of this lawyer firm. Can this firm afford to lose clients? A lawyer came highly recommended to me from other lawyers in Victoria. I never ever got a chance to speak to the lawyer I was referred to. Celeste, the gate keeper to the lawyer I wanted to speak with; never allowed me to speak with the lawyer. I explained my situation and expressed the urgency of my matter to no avail. I then rang to ask what the normal policy was with this lawyer firm. The receptionist was utterly rude as well, she’ll claim she wasn’t; but she was. She hung up on me! I did not swear or anything. I was merely asking about the process of this company. I told the receptionist I was going to leave a review here…explaining the rudeness and unprofessionaism of the staff. She said…go right ahead…and hung up!! Wow!!! Potential clients, you’ve been warned.

As stressful as it can be to go to the lawyer's office, this place can actually put you at ease. The reception staff are friendly and helpful, the legal assistants are polite and knowledgeable, and though the only lawyer I know there is Fiona, she is an absolute gem of a woman who goes out of her way to assist and make sure clients understand what's happening. My husband and I are so grateful to Horne Coupar for all their help navigating our family member's will and making things as simple as possible for us!
