I have been receiving the mountaineer via mail for several months now and am enjoying its New Look. To me, it has the qappearance and feel of a welcoming Community Weekly. As a former resident of Grande Cache, I am very happy to be able to read the regular accounts of the monthly town council meetings. What is missing these days are more frequent contributions from townsfolk in the form of letters to the editor and contributed columns other than the odd politically driven epistle. These could be both informative to the reading public, useful as a source of current affairs topics for school and, in the longer term, stimulate interest and discussion on community matters. We live in an increasingly interconnected world where it is no longer possible or even practical to "let the rest of the world go by". I often hear favourable comments from visitors to Grande Cache. The area is rich in human story, natural beauty and natural history. Numerous possibilities have been voiced and documented for attracting visitors and potentially, new tennants of the town. Very little has been done to drill down into these ideas for future development. The building and operation of the Interpretive Centre and subsequent history-based enhancements set the tone for what the future may bring. Along with due recognition of past journalistic achievements go my best wishes for continuing success.
