Worst lawyer I have ever had to work with. She was actually my parents lawyer. My Mom's lawyer was going to be out of town, so she passed my parents onto her Colleague, Martha Chuchman.
I really don't think Martha has a clear confident understanding of real estate in Manitoba. I am from BC and my most recent experiences have been in my home province. Through this experience I have discovered that Manitoba is unique and a bit behind the times. Not that that is Martha's fault, but she could not clearly set expectations and we were left wondering "where is the money and when will my parents get it". They had no mortgage on the house and all bills were up to date.
Martha went on and on about holding back $10,000 waiting for the water bill to clear, but she would bring the rest. She repeated this many times over the phone and then when she came to drop off the cheque. Her statement of adjustments made no sense and we missed the one small paragraph that said something about the balance of the $50,000 deposit is still to come. This amount was $34,000 and the amount held back for the water bill was $1000, NOT $10,000 as she repeated many times. And not once did she verbally mention the balance of deposit.
We really didn't want to talk to her on the phone again, so we emailed a letter saying she made a mistake, because my parents are missing $34,000. She called. I listened to me Mom talk to her for a bit until I noticed my Mom looking for her water bill. What the heck!!? We were asking about the balance of the deposit not the $1000.
I got the phone and Martha said, "I am not going to talk to you". She had to, because my Mom wasn't talking anymore. Martha caused so much anxiety because she talks so much, makes no sense, doesn't give you the confidence that she knows what she is doing. Oh my goodness, do not hire this woman.
ZERO STARS!
On the other hand, if perhaps medically her mind is slowly slipping, hopefully someone who is close to her can encourage to go for testing.
