We purchased a house and used this law firm to complete the sale.

Nathan Hawee was our lawyer. He communicated with us very well and in our appointment to review and sign documents, ensured we understood everything. As a first time home buyer, my husband and I appreciated this very much. I would recommend him if you are purchasing a home!

Our closing was a bit challenging, and we expected this as the seller was not an organized person nor was the house clean in any capacity any time we had visited prior. We expressed these concerns to Nathan at our appointment and he explained what we could expect given the situation. Nathan communicated with us clearly throughout the closing process and gave us his honest opinion in the matter when we asked. I really appreciated that. Our closing was a day late, but this was not the fault of Nathan, but the fault of the seller and seller's lawyer.

The reason I am giving four stars is because we did have some challenges with the receptionist or assistant (not sure of the title). She missed on our buyer's survey that we were first time home buyers, so the land transfer tax refund was not available when we met with Nathan. We had to pick up the cheque along with our keys a few days later (instead of it being available at our meeting when signing documents). More of an inconvenience than anything else. Our communication with her was lackluster at best (though she was always very polite) and we found ourselves prompting a lot the communication with her. We understand that a house closing may not be a big deal to the firm but it was to us and we felt that communication could have been a bit better leading up to our meeting with the firm.

That all being said, I would use this firm again if I needed a lawyer, as I thought Nathan was very professional and knowledgeable, and took the time to explain in detail what we were signing. If you are looking for a lawyer to complete your closing process as a house buyer, I would recommend Nathan.

Used them recently for 2 transaction (buy and selling houses), so I can only comment on the experience I had with their residential real estate lawyer. They've been on top of everything and made my part of the transition super easy. Very quick and prompt responses from the assistants and clerks to the lawyers. I only dealt with ~3 people but they've all been very professional. To boot their law office is pretty dope. Would definitely recommend and will be using them again in the future.

5 years ago I hired chinneck law to do a property purchase for me on a condo. Granted it was a bit more complex than the average closure but they could NOT complete the transaction and told me they would not be able to move forward. They kept my $500 deposit for a few phone calls and emails and then proceeded to send me an additional bill for $1600. I called them and refused to pay due to the fact they didn’t accomplish anything. They replied saying that they required payment even though they did nothing. They sent my file to equifax when I still refused to pay them for doing nothing. I hired another lawyer who accomplished what they could not and charged me less than $600 TOTAL for a completed transaction.
These lawyers are CROOKS!!! Stay far away as they will rip you off, do poor quality work and refuse to meet you in small claims court and will put your file on equifax when you deny them payment for their conjob.

I live in Alberta and my father's estate had to be handled in Ontario. Living three provinces away and with the Covid-19 fiasco taking place I was unsure of how long it would take to finalize my father's estate.
My thanks to Jillian, Wendy and Jaime. From the first day we contacted Chinneck Law (during Christmas Holidays) - they took full control of what had to take place - I never had to travel back East - as everything was taken care of by phone ,email and couriered documents, we were kept fully up to date with what was taking place and were never left with any unanswered questions. I honestly would not even give this law firm a whole star. Me and my ex purchased two different homes and sold ours with this law firm and are NOT impressed with the way it has been handled. First off, the receptionist is quite rude and not friendly at all. Secondly my house closed prior to Our house closing and thank god for that because they did not process the paperwork in time and my closing date was pushed back a day. We are currently on the closing date of our house and my exes new house and of course they are saying that they cannot process the paperwork in time. Therefore we do not get our money, and m my ex does not get his house so he has nowhere to sleep for the night. The fact that this has been pushed back is ridiculous. I haven’t even received a phone call from the law firm to let me know that we aren’t closing today. The only reason I know is because my ex called the law firm and then told me, so he did not receive a phone call either. Very upset with the unprofessionalism that this place has. I would NOT recommend this law firm at all, ever. They have no problem taking your money and also their sweet time to close deals. I will definitely be contacting the law society about this experience.
