Glen helped me in a moment of distress. He and his staff demonstrated not only a high level of professionalism, but a high level of compassion and respect. He listened carefully to my story and reviewed my case with detail in order to give me the best possible advice. I am happy with his service and I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs legal advice. Thanks Glen and all the Caveat LLp team for your help. I wish you nothing, but good.

This firm did the minimum of what I retained them for. They only represented me in the hearing and amended my T6 - these services cost more than $2000. The City of Hamilton offers the same services for free to low income residents which I would have used had I known.

The firm was often unresponsive in answering emails, did not help gather evidence, missed at least one meeting without explanation, failed to inform me that an eviction notice had been filed and often left responsibilites to their assistants. When confronted about this the paralegal would often do what could be considered 'gaslighting' and/or have me confused with another client. They were not in any way helpful in having the repairs done to my unit through the ESA and bylaw which I had to contact on my own without any of the firm's assistance. The amount of rent rebatement I was ordered to recieve via the board was less than half of the cost of retaining this firm and even significantly less than this firm suggested I request per their amended T6.

After bringing up some of the above points I was dropped as a client from the firm and left to negotiate with my landlord's representative alone.

Shop around and beware of non profit, public services or DIY before retaining any firm has been my experience after doing business with Caveat LLP.

Update: the firm's response to this review came much quicker than most questions I had emailed them during their retiainment.

I should also add that I paid them over $2000 in April of '24 but they waited till one week before the hearing in March of '25 to amend the T6, long after I - without their help - had sought to have the repairs done in my unit.

As far as their suggestion to pay the firm further for negotiation over the the board's order: I have since obtained my meager rent rebatement without having to pay a law firm a huge amount of $ to not answer emails and do the bare minimum.

Thus this firm has shown that you can do it yourself and save ALOT of money.

As a landlord, I hired Angela from this paralegal company to handle a non-paying tenant who owed 7 months of rent. When I asked if I should attend the hearing, she told me no. After the hearing, she emailed me claiming the tenant had to vacate by the end of April and demanded a representation fee.

However, the decision (issued April 3rd) dismissed my case due to an error on the N4 form, but Angela never informed me. Unaware of the dismissal, I thanked her and sent an e-transfer on April 8th, believing the tenant was leaving. She ghosted me despite multiple follow-ups. Only on April 10th did she finally admit the case was dismissed, yet she still refused to send me the decision document, even after repeated requests. The tenant was the one who ultimately sent me the decision letter, which clearly showed the dismissal was due to her mistake.

When I questioned her and mentioned consulting another paralegal, she became angry and defensive, saying I could "transfer the files" if I wanted. She then offered to reapply for a hearing (with a 4-5 month wait) and file a "free review", but by then, I had already lost 3 more months of rent.

Thankfully, with help from another paralegal, we secured an expedited hearing in just 20 days.

Extremely frustrated with this negligent and unprofessional service. I will now pursue legal action to recover lost rent, paralegal fees, and additional damages.

Avoid this company. Poor communication, incompetence, and dishonesty cost me thousands.

Angela who represented this firm did the minimum of what I retained them for. I hired her as an employment lawyer regarding my severance package and in the end, I was terribly disappointed with her performance other than serving a letter.

The firm was often unresponsive in answering emails and calls and often left responsibilities to their assistants. Even when you contacted the assistant and briefed her about everything, I hardly received any call back from Angela which is extremely disrespectful and negligent. In the end, I got very little value out of the $ that I paid to her as retainer. In the end, I was hugely disappointed and felt disrespected.

If that is how they do business, it is recommended that one do not retain their services at all. In the end you would not be looked after properly and your money will be wasted. My advice "STAY AWAY".

I had an extremely disappointing experience with this paralegal firm and would never recommend their services. Andrew Choubeta was assigned as my paralegal and demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism. He failed to attend any of the pre-hearing meetings, arrived unprepared for the actual LTB hearing, and gave me incorrect legal advice that significantly damaged my case.

To make matters worse, he did not appear for the second hearing and failed to notify me of the date, resulting in a missed rehearing. After this, the firm placed Andrew on administrative leave due to the illegal advice he gave—but this action came far too late to repair the situation. Angela stepped in afterward, but was unable to explain Andrew's removal or justify the firm's mismanagement, and ultimately lost the case as well.

This entire process was a waste of my time, energy, and money. I strongly urge others to seek legal help elsewhere.

Note: it's great you can respond so quickly to a Google review but take weeks to return emails or calls from clients. I hope you never represent anyone in the future

Avoid Caveat LLP at all costs... As a tenant, I dealt with this law firm during an LTB case where they represented Foundation Capital Holdings. My experience was one of manipulation, misleading testimony, and procedural misconduct. They claimed a parking lot (“Lot B”) existed to justify charging me for parking that was never provided — a claim that was never disclosed before the hearing and that the City of St. Thomas confirmed was false.

Despite clear documentation from the city showing my vehicle was never registered, and my lease showing parking was included, Caveat LLP succeeded by introducing last-minute falsehoods, which the Landlord and Tenant Board accepted without verification. This allowed them to retain payments under false pretenses.

This conduct undermines tenant rights and shows the firm’s willingness to twist facts to win. I’ve filed complaints with the Ombudsman and am exploring a Small Claims Court action for recovery and damages.

If you are a tenant or vulnerable party dealing with this firm, document everything and be prepared to fight misleading narratives. In my opinion, their actions were unethical and reflect poorly on both the legal system and those they represent.

I can not say enough good things about Angela and her assistant Abigail. Not only did Angie take the time to explain my rights to me but she explained EVERYTHING that was going on in my case. Abigail was amazing at keep in contact and putting my mind at ease when concerns came up. Compared to other law firms they may be a bit on the pricey end but I promise Angie is worth EVERY PENNY. She doesn't allow bullying from either party(which unfortunately is a big thing between LL and TT) and encourages fair communication. I will definitely be using Angie, Abigail and Caveat LLP for all tenant and landlord legal representative needs. Absolute life savers!

I was referred to Glenn and the Caveat team as they had an extensive record of dealing with LTB and Tenant issues. As a landlord dealing with a bad Tenant who was constantly delayed and missed payments, Glenn and his team were able to help assist with the appropriate measures and the filings/hearings with the LTB board to a great success. Communication was excellent and I highly recommend this firm if you are having issues with Tenants.
