I have been working in the law industry for over 12 years and this is by far, the worst law firm I have ever dealt with. During the entire Sale transaction I never recieved one phone call, including before and after the closing. All correspondence was via email and even then, their responses were sometimes days later and let me assure you, I was not one of those clients that bombarded them with phone calls and emails. The only time I got a phone call was a couple of months later to let me know their was an outstanding invoice for a $34 courier when I specifically asked (repeatedly) to have the documents sent by mail. If you're ok with zero compassion, poor correspondence and being passed from person to person (4 in all) then this is the law firm for you!!!! Save your money and find a lawyer that's actually willing to talk to you. I would name names but I think they know exactly who they are.

Everyone on the Carr, Stevenson and MacKay legal team are very professional, personable, kind and efficient taking the stress out of such dealings. Go with someone else - I was recommended to them to be my lawyers for closing on a house - they wouldn't return phone calls, hit reply on emails, then apparently fired someone which meant I still wasn't getting called and when I chased them down, that fired person was thrown under the bus, but I had to basically re-do everything again with someone equally inattentive. If you want to be ignored, ghosted, and give the same answer 4-5 times with zero remorse or empathy from their end - this is your law office. If you want actual human interaction, attentive service, and know that everything is being done on time and accurately - go somewhere else. Here's hoping everything is done correctly in a couple days when I close...... Should have trusted my gut a month ago and switched lawyers then.

Absolutely poor service.

1) They charged email correspondence.
2) It took 6 months to get few documents lined up proper.
3) Very rude reply from Melisa & her assistant Lori.
4) No proper advice for any issue. I am still not sure what letter went to corporation , when it went, I called corporation they said they did not receive any correspondence.

No where on earth I have been charged for email correspondence and initial consultation 🙂

Being a migrant and startup this has been a traumatic experience. Still my queries are unanswered that why email correspondences ( underline correspondences were not any advice ,those were only for asking about meeting time) were charged as well as how meeting can be charged before understanding what was required to do.

PS: Initial Meeting lasted less than 15 minutes after 15 minutes of waiting. Just for a courtesy I did not send bill for my waste of time.

I even asked for grievance addressal process and I did not get any proper / satisfactory answer for it as well.

I probably had multiple time thought about leaving the island and go somewhere else to raise my family & start my startup after this experience, it brutally destroyed my willingness to be in PEI.

Go with a different firm or if for some reason you must use Carr, Stevenson & Mackay, stay away from J. Gordon MacKay. This guy is a weirdo. I was just waiting in their office waiting area to see a different lawyer to finalize a real estate purchase and he walks up to me out of the blue and gets right in my face and proceeds to give me a dirty look and says, "oh, your tough." Then walks away. I don't think I should have been insulted while I'm paying them thousands of dollars.
