Only giving two stars because he has a nice office and he is good to talk too and he’s straight to the point and his experience is perfect.
His assistant Ashley, ruins it for him. She’s rude and doesn’t make you feel comfortable at all. It’s too bad because we really wanted Carey to obtain this case. If you can get past her and deal with her being rude and ignorant, you may be fine.
We filled out everything possible and it still wasn’t good enough. Charged almost 1800$ (they did forgive a certain amount, probably because you know you did wrong) 2 phone calls and 12 emails and for her to review the paperwork but completely missed the information she already had and said “I’m not going page by page with you” when asked about the missing information isn’t that your job as a law clerk? To help someone if they need more help or doesn’t understand something?
I’m really disappointed in her. She seems very unhappy.

Save your money and time and find somewhere else.

I have never been so disappointed in our legal system and in a lawyer, as I am right now. I have a young friend who has been trying for a month to find a lawyer. He has been prejudiced because of his age, and his financial situation. Legal Aid won't help because he makes too much and no lawyer will touch him because he is young and doesn't make enough. I suggested he call Carey because I believed he was a good lawyer. But, Carey laughed at him, told him not a chance, he would not even listen to what this young person had to say. The courts are not helping or listening, the lawyers are not helping and the young hard working man is left to flounder in an extremely confusing system. There is no access to justice here. You can judge a person by how they treat their most vulnerable, and Mr. Speirs has clearly demonstrated his point of view.

Honestly, I would give Carey 0 stars. My son retained him for a family law matter back in 2021, and since Mr. Speirs took our retainer fee, and all of my sons documentation... there has been no further communication from him. This has resulted in the case being sent to court, and increased lawyer fees, and a very upset ex-spouse. We will be demanding our fees back as Mr. Speirs did absolutely NO WORK for my son and has left him with a court case to deal with. Completely unprofessional and either overwhelmed or incredibly lazy.

I called Carey looking for a consultation on my situation. When I brought up issues with what was happening to me, he dismissed them as "I don't deal with that." I thought family lawyers are supposed to be considerate. His "advice" was talk to the governing body myself. He doesn't deal with FRO issues according to him despite being a family lawyer. Then he hung up on me after I asked him why consult me if you had no intention of giving me legal advice on my situation. Completely unprofessional

Carey is hands down one of the best lawyers I've ever had the opportunity to work with. He's very focused on conflict resolution, and ethical practice of law. His staff (Ashley et al) are very responsive and professional. I will definitely retain them again if the need arises. Top notch.

If you are looking for a family law lawyer to assist you in a Motion to Change, do not contact Carey Speirs. He acted for my daughter in a very contentious custody and access issue that took almost four years to complete. He drew up the final agreement through 16 hours of mediation which was court ordered. His CLIENT IS NOW IN A POSITION that she needs to make a motion to change child support - and he has taken the position that he does not wish to move forward on her behalf. A considerable amount of money was paid to him initially - and he could not finalize the agreement because the Applicant did not pay his lawyers bill and Mr. Speirs left his own client hanging in limbo to finalize the agreement on her own. He is a LAZY LAWYER, has not demonstrated a commitment to his client, I would suggest that if you are looking for a family lawyer DO NOT go to Mr. Speirs, he will not serve your best interests, he certainly does not think "outside the box" in family law matters. His receptionist Ashley is particularly arrogant and is not client
focused,nor is Mr.Speirs. Check google reviews -- I wish I add before retaining him - His review if "1" and that should tell you something. I would rate him at 0
