Jillian was neglectful and unprofessional. I feel really stupid for letting this go on for three months but Jillian was recommended to me by a close friend.
Started fine. Promised to write a letter/follow up/take action but did nothing. Took weeks to get a response for an update. Wasted three months on my divorce. She turned a stressful matter into a nightmare.
I was charged for every email and phone call asking for a follow up (because she hadn't gotten back to my previous message!)
She became angry when I asked if she was able to even do what she promised. Then blamed me and said she was not given instructions and I had not filled in some documents (My emails were clear and I was not provided the documents in the first place!)
She had no idea what was going on. She suggested a meeting to discuss the plan only to do nothing for another month still. Rinse and repeat four weeks later.
She was in court and unavailable most of the time. She should not have taken on my matter nor should have billed me $1490 for leading me on. I'll be taking this to the Law Society of Ontario.

I use the services at Burford Law from 2016 to June 2023. For Family Law only.
When Barb was representing me in 2017-2019, she was incredible, and worth every cent. Since then she has unfortunately left family law. Then her daughter Jillian took over for my file, and while Barb was still at the office, Jillian was a pretty good lawyer.

Unfortunately, I had to re-open up another case in 2022, for the same reason-family law.
We had kept in touch in between, and I had filled Jillian in every step of the way. She reassured me that we had a case and that it would go quickly and smoothly.
Unfortunately, that is not how it went
From June 2023-April 2024 she did absolutely nothing but would send me the odd. Let her to ask for more money.
Thankfully, I saved all of the letters emails and took notes on how many calls and messages I left with no reply.
Thank you to Amy in the office that finally listened to what was actually going on and help me puzzle pieces together.
Jillian dropped the ball. Even with proof, she still argued with me that she did not, when I finally got a hold of her after seven or eight months

On another note, my fiancé also started using them as family law services in 2019.
He was bounced around from Jillian to other lawyers that we’re just starting out, his case finally got settled and he was waiting on the divorce to be finalized for over a year. He would call the office and ask them what was taking it so long and they said that the courthouse was backed up due to Covid.
He finally called the courthouse himself and asked about this issue, and they said that they were waiting for paperwork from the law office for over a year.

At one point this law office was worth every cent when it came to Barb and Jillian when in family law.
Unfortunately, I can’t say the same anymore.

To put it simply do not use them for family law.
Unless you like lawyers that dropped the ball and don’t know where your case is at, charges you for doing their job, loses your paperwork, and NEVER gets back to you.

If I could give LESS than 1 star I would.

Maybe only use them for wills, real estate , etc?

You will be badly represented by this company, most of the secretaries do all the legal work and you don't even have a lawyer that will represent you , they don't even show up to the court ,you are left stranded, paperwork was not completed on time, this Law Firm will take your case and money and let lapse, lawyers don't call you back but they charge you for talking to the secretary. They misappropriated funds from my inheritance knowing I was starving at the time, and couldn't pay my bills, this Law Firm is heartless, do not use this Law Firm unless you want to get taken to the cleaners. One of their lawyers quit to go work at the opposite party , causing conflict of interest which helped the other side win the case, this whole Law Firm should be disbarred every single last one of them!!!!
Please look for a better lawyer anything is better than these Crooks

Completely rude and very unprofessional when i spoke to Jillian on the phone in regards to papers i received in the mail from one of her clients, she proceeded to be rude when i tried to explain what was going on to her. She belittled me, was harsh and said the information i was saying was basically untrue. when i told her she could contact those who have the information that is not false she then told me over and over that she does not represent me. i was not asking her to represent me. i would never have anyone from this firm represent me if this is how they treat people. once i stated that i was not agreeing to the terms of the papers because i felt unsafe around her client she then acted like a child when she heard someone in the background, (who was not even making a comment on the situation but talking to someone else) she hung up.
in conclusion. It is not professional at all and does not deserve to have the word in their sign.

I have been using Barb and Gillian for over 15 years. Wills, real estate (numerous transactions) have all gone smoothly. Everyone at the office is very friendly. Highly recommend.

Terrible experience. Told me to drop my case for custody of my daughter, whom was living with me due to unsafe conditions living with her mother. Failed to submit my documents in time and they were not accepted in court. This led to my daughter being removed from my custody and a 7 year court battle that escalated to my daughter being behind 2 years academically. Last year, I was finally granted permanent primary residence (without a trial) and my daughter is back on track, no thanks to this Law Office! There are plenty of better options for representation.

My experience with this law firm has been the worst.. after multiple attempts to find out what was happening with my mother's estate.. still to this day 6 months later myself and kids have never been contacted back, 0nor have even been notified of the inherent that is still outstanding.. oyr that there was even one there..

Customer service is totally not the best quality of this firm.. no communication what so ever..
