I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Bruce Ally in a recently concluded case where Mr. Ally was the mediator. Mr. Ally’s professionalism, knowledge of mediation is second to none. As I was self represented with no knowledge of law or how mediation works, Mr. Ally explained to me how mediation works when we went on the zoom call with the defendant’s lawyers. As always neither parties are completely satisfied with the settlement but Mr. Ally’s negotiation skills, helped me to get a settlement that was way more than what the defendants lawyer had offered after the discoveries. As a plaintiff I went to sign the Release this week in the defendant’s office and the defendant’s lawyer said that she has worked with many mediators and Mr. Ally is the best mediator she has ever worked with. If you are looking for a mediator that is professional, knowledgeable and friendly, look no further, call Mr Ally’s office as the admin staff are also very kind, friendly and very responsive. We had the displeasure of using Bruce Ally as a mediator for a civil suit earlier this year. At the outset it started badly, as Mr. Ally did not even introduce himself to us. He took no time to develop any rapport or trust with us, and also took no time to understand our position in any way. In fact, he did not ask us a single question regarding our case. Instead, he spent most of the time speaking about his own accomplishments and experience; the anecdotes he used in an effort to achieve a settlement were mostly unrelated to our case, and very out of touch. He may have been more successful had he spent less time talking about himself, and more time getting to know the people involved in the case.
We felt manipulated by Mr. Ally, as he kept us separate from the plaintiff, and after we thought we'd agreed upon a settlement number he came back with a higher number again! He mentioned several times that he was looking forward to going for an early lunch, and we felt rushed and pressured by him.
When we expressed frustration and emotion about this back-tracking, he lost his temper and raised his voice at us. This was after we had done nothing but follow his advice, despite our reservations and lack of trust in him, as we simply wanted to resolve the matter.
Mr. Ally began the day by saying that it wasn't about winning or losing, but when it was all said and done and negotiations had broken down, he glibly stated "you win some, you lose some." Mr Ally showed zero tact, zero empathy, and was horrible to work with. I would never recommend using his mediation services.
