I had a terrible experience with Katharine Carter in May 2024, and I would not recommend her to anyone seeking mediation services.

My lawyer referred me to her while I was going through a divorce. In my understanding, a mediator should remain neutral and work to help both parties find fair resolutions. Unfortunately, Katharine did not fulfill that role.

She scheduled five joint sessions for us, but I had to withdraw before completing them because her conduct was unprofessional and biased. During the second session, my ex-wife and I actually reached agreement on a few points — yet when Katharine drafted the notes, she completely omitted those agreements and instead recorded information that went against what I had said. When I asked her to correct the false information, her response was that she could still issue a certificate of completion — which she went ahead and did.

On top of that, she even charged me for a third session that I did not attend.

Overall, I felt her actions showed favoritism and a lack of integrity, which made an already difficult process even more frustrating. Mediation is supposed to reduce conflict, but in this case, it only created more distrust.

Carter’s Counselling are a group trustworthy professionals with years of experience working with adults and youth in a variety of settings. They are excellent listeners who show true compassion and empathy to their clients. Their offices are warm and inviting and they are available during the day, evenings and weekends!
