It was absolutely horrible being here. (Digital & Content Marketing)

Cultural experience: The WORST
My course was 100% international students who are ALL of the same skin color, except for me and a few other folks. I felt disconnected and entirely unable to blend in given the homogeneity of the class and their prevalent preferred language. I was often lumped into broad generalizations made by profs such as: “your experience in/back home in + (one single country of origin),” which offended me and make my disliking for the association even greater. The school obviously didn’t make any attempts at diversity recruitment, or ensuring that the students’ experience are fulfilled.

The learning: profs’ lectures are hit or miss. Marketing/Digital Fundamentals, SEO and Content Creation was informative, the rest more entertaining than educational.

The assignment:
We were the first cohort to have the integrated project. I have interacted with the people behind the course and I really appreciate their visions and what they tried to do. But the roll out was too early, too unrehearsed.

While I appreciate the vision, I didn’t like the fact that we were requested to imagine a brand out of thin air, make a year-long project for it without any real life application beyond the course. It feels like my whole 16k tuition is gone for something completely useless. I did appreciate one thing: not having to beg my teammates to do work as all are working and mostly unresponsive/abuse AI.

To make matters worse, because of the nonexistent brand we have to work on, there’s no facts or basis for the assignment. They are all made up (like: liking your own social media post, buying bots for follows then pretend to analyze those stats). I felt like I was fabricating it all just to pass.

And the poorly planned assignment concludes with prompts that sometimes ask you to do something that hasn’t been taught, or unnecessary (like giving AI my writing for feedback, show the instructors both versions and my consolidation after AI feedback x5 times). Required tasks are always not present in the rubrics, and vice versa (something that’s in the rubrics but wasn’t asked to do). So we basically didn’t know what we were doing. Now guess with that rubrics, how can the grading be transparent and correct?

To conclude: DON’T EVER CONSIDER THIS PLACE.

I am writing this review while waiting with my class of 20 for our professor, who is now over 1.5 hours late for a lecture that occurs only once every two weeks. But it is not the first time the professor is inexcusably late, and sadly, it is not the biggest problem with this educational institution.

The primary concern is the lack of engagement and professionalism from the professors. They appear disinterested in both teaching and grading assignments, which is disheartening given the high tuition fees of 3800 CAD. This financial commitment is not reflected in the quality of education provided.

Moreover, some professors do not offer any substantial study materials or structured teaching. Instead, they simply provide links to mediocre articles online, which does not justify the cost or meet educational standards. This approach undermines the value of the learning experience and is particularly disappointing given the substantial fees charged.

Overall, the institution's approach to education and its apparent disregard for students' time and money are deeply troubling.

UPDATE:
To make matters worse, they organized a so-called “graduation ceremony,” which was bizarre and completely inappropriate for a short certificate program that offered no academic rigor. The event was chaotic and poorly managed: the staff were rude, disorganized, and yelling at students, treating us more like prisoners than guests. It was painfully obvious the school was trying to stage a pretty photo-op to maintain appearances for accreditation, rather than celebrating any real achievement.

Beyond the academic disappointment, I was shocked to learn how the school facilitates invitations for international relatives, raising serious concerns about the program being used as a loophole for immigration purposes. When combined with the lack of academic value, it gives the impression that the program may exist more to serve administrative and immigration interests than to actually educate.

Frankly, this program felt like a money-making machine under the guise of continuing education. If you respect your time, money, and professional integrity, stay away from the York University School of Continuing Studies. It does not reflect the standards or values that one would expect from a respected Canadian university.

I applied for a Hr program and couldn't start because my student visa was denied among other things hence I had to request for a tuition refund. It was approved in March this year and it's a little over 6 months now and I still have not gotten the tuition amount. Their payment service vendor Convera is a joke it's been one excuse or the other from them as to why I haven't gotten my money despite having provided them with all requested documentation on several occasion. Till now I haven't gotten my refund and this has left me frustrated and disappointed. My experience has been far from a good one.

So far, my experience with York University School of continuing studies has been great. The staff is incredibly informative and helpful. They helped me with my concerns promptly, unlike other institutions where I needed to wait hours on the phone just to ask a simple question. York Uni's staff is out here answering it within 1 minute and resolving the issue flawlessly. I never regret enrolling at York University.

I had a memorable and an amazing experience at York U. The environment is friendly and people are nice. They really accommodate student not only academically but for special circumstances as well. I had an injury due to a fracture at the beginning of my 1st semester due to which I couldn’t attend classes, the management was so nice to help me get through that difficult situation without getting my studies affected. This school is Superb.

I wanted to learn more about Machine Learning but due to working full-time, my options were limited. The YorkU course was feasible because I only had to go on location during the weekend (for the most part). In about 8 months of intense studying, I now feel like I have the tools necessary to excel in the field of ML and AI. I gleaned practical knowledge which I am able to apply at my current work. Also, I now have a portfolio having completed several projects during the course of the program. I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in getting into the field but has found self-study and online learning to be somewhat lacking. It's a vast field and I have to keep learning every day but I feel that the course has given me the confidence to learn on my own moving forward.
