Maybe they're decent at what they claim they do but I'll never find out. After a paid consultation with Ms Barder, I sent her an email the same day to engage her services. And kept following up for the next 2 weeks as I urgently needed help with a hostile tenant. I kept waiting but did not get a single response. Not even a 'no'.

Unprofessional Conduct and Poor Service

I am extremely disappointed with the unprofessional conduct of Lisa Barder, a paralegal I hired to handle my case with the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB). My experience was riddled with delays, poor communication, and outright unprofessional behavior.

1. Without consulting or informing me, Lisa declared her unavailability on the portal for more than half of three months (October-December), which delayed my hearing until 2025. I was not informed of this decision beforehand, causing unnecessary stress and disruption.

2. Incomplete Documentation: Despite submitting all necessary documents on, Lisa returned the evidence book two months later missing a key document. Instead of acknowledging and addressing this issue promptly, she mentioned a $175 administrative fee would be added on top and accused me of not reviewing the book properly. Being reasonable, I advised I would pay the invoice once I receive the complete evidence book as the work was incomplete. To avoid further conflict, I still paid her invoice right away and respectfully asked her to send me the complete evidence book as soon a possible given the hearing deadlines approaching.

3. Threats to Withdraw Services: When I raised valid concerns these, Lisa threatened to disengage from my case for not paying the invoice when I had already done so despite the job she had done with the production book was incomplete missing a relevant important document. instead of resolving the issues, Lisa caused me me more frustration and unwanted stress.

Apart from this, Lisa asked me to complete the rent and utilities ledgers myself when I had already sent her all the documents and the rent ledger two months prior confirming this completes all the documents. Two months later she asked me to complete the ledgers again and while I completed it, it should never have been my job to do so as I had provided her with rent and utility records, therefore it was part of her production of evidence to create these ledgers as she was paid for it.

These actions have severely impacted my case, caused me unwanted stress, delayed proceedings, and eroded my trust in Lisa’s ability to provide competent representation.

I cannot recommend Lisa Barder’s services and urge others to carefully consider their options before working with this paralegal.
