I located Neil Milton's practice online while searching for information regarding the complexities of out-of-Canada executors and POAs for Canadians. Mr. Milton agreed to meet with my father and me, as we are doing his estate planning, to discuss the pros and cons of using a trust company vs an individual for POA/Executor, given that I reside in the US. Mr. Milton spent a full hour with us, patiently answering our questions and giving us a wide array of advice on topics related to probate, handling of securities accounts from outside Canada, setting up joint accounts, and more. He did all this effectively pro-bono knowing that we would not be retaining him or paying him. I had many questions about Probating a will, that involved a complicated situation. I emailed Neil Milton and had all my questions answered and my concerns addressed. I am estate trustee for my dad who suffered a severe stroke, was bedridden for a long time and passed away after suffering from many stroke complications. When I started working on the administration and probate, some financial documents were not available. Neil Milton provided me with excellent direction and support. He recommended to get the probate completed ASAP. He said that I can feel comfortable that I am doing all the administration and probate correctly with what I know. And if in the future if other financial documents come up, I can pay the interests later. And If there was a financial penalty later because of missed financial documents; I would pay it. Neil Milton said sometimes penalties can be waived in complicated cases when the estate trustee acted in honestly and integrity: "in good faith".
