If transparency and decency are values you expect from a law firm, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

I engaged McLeod Law for an off-site service for a terminally ill family member. Based on a positive experience with their intake specialist, I decided to proceed. Unfortunately, my experience quickly soured when I received an unexpected and, in my view, unjustifiable invoice especially given that the service was never completed.

Before I even received a receipt for my retainer payment, I was sent a lump-sum charge via email, with no breakdown of services and no formal invoice. It was only after I insisted, that an itemized invoice was sent, revealing charges I found unreasonable. This included a brief phone call (which the lawyer, Katie, offered to make) where she merely reiterated why she could not proceed. No legal advice was given, yet it was billed as a “professional service.” A short, unhelpful email response was also billed at an excessive rate.

Adding to my concerns was the lack of transparency in communication. I was never provided the lawyer’s contact number, even after requesting it. Instead I was told to contact her via email only, leaving no way to verify how time was actually spent. And the one call she made to me came from a blocked number.

I cannot speak to this firm's legal capabilities, but their billing practices and professional discretion are deeply concerning. If my experience (and that of a few others I’ve now read under these reviews) is any indication, I would not trust this firm with any legal matter.

I feel incredibly fortunate that I was directed to McLeod Law LLP and attorney Stephen Whitehead when I was in the early stages of family court proceedings. I knew very little about the court process and was feeling overwhelmed when considering all of the possible outcomes. Stephen is a great lawyer and provided exceptional legal services, but it was the way in which he guided me through the process that really put my mind at ease. His approach to my situation was direct, focused and on point, but also empathetic and supportive. I needed an attorney that I could count on to protect and fight for the most important things in my life; Stephen did that and more. I achieved the outcome I wanted and peace of mind in large part because of the great work done by Stephen Whitehead and his support staff at McLeod Law. I highly recommend.

Today I called McLeod Law and was referred to Stephen Whitehead. I left a message and received a call back within minutes. Stephen listened to my concerns and asked questions and spent 31 minutes talking with me. He was easy to talk to and made it easy to understand my options moving forward. I had a terrible experience with this law firm in a litigation matter. After paying this firm many thousands of dollars, I was left in a worse position compared to when this firm was retained. I would rate them less than a 1 but the lowest rating that can be given is a 1.

I hate to leave a bad review, but I had an extremely unfortunate experience working with Jeff Larson on a commercial real estate deal.

Self admittedly, I'm new to commercial real estate and leasing real estate properties. I hired Jeff to guide me through the process and add some "legitimacy" to my offer to lease, and make sure I didn't come across as inexperienced or "green." I also wanted to ensure I didn't get taken advantage of by someone more experienced than me on the other side of negotiations.

In my opinion I didn't feel as though Jeff was very engaged, and he didn't seem to offer much in terms of advice or guidance. I had done up a lease to go over with him before I sent it to the landlord, and he just agreed to everything I had already done on my own, without offering any guidance or support.

After sending the official lease offer to the landlord, it got completely torn apart. Wording was incorrect, legal definitions were wrong, format was confusing for the landlord and certain things about the offer didn't make sense (I didn't realize it at the time).

I came off the exact way I had tried so hard to avoid. I came off as inexperienced and "green."

I wanted to give Jeff a chance to chat about it before leaving an online review. I sent him an email and was honest with him about my experience. I let him know how disappointed I was, and how much more my bill was than I was expecting. His response was scathing. He completely tore me a new.....you know what.

He said things like, "I wager I have done hundreds of more leases than him" - When referring to questions about the lease from the landlord.

"You got off light at only $$$$" - When I was completely shocked to get a bill as high as it was.

"You were the one who wanted to do it yourself and save a buck." - When I brought up the mistakes with the lease offer that he didn't catch.

Like I mentioned, I really do hate to leave a negative review, but I couldn't be more disappointed with Jeff's professionalism and demeanor.

I was hoping that after I shared my concerns that he may show empathy or ask questions to improve his service, but instead he has been arrogant and defensive.

I was very disappointed in my experience, and I'm left with a really sour taste in my mouth.

We recently did closing of our new house in Calgary and we decided to go with the Lawyer assigned by the builder ( McLeod Law and with Christine)

Christine was okay, we signed documents over FaceTime. Since, I was familiar with the documents, I didn’t need more education on that but if you aren’t familiar then I would recommend not using this lawyer as it was a super quick process. The Law Clerk, Rose Madriaga was absolutely unpleasant to deal with. She has zero customer skills, not friendly at all and was just plain rude. If you get contacted by Rose, please request a different clerk cause she will make your experience HORRIBLE.

We did our closing back in June of 2023 and we have been waiting since then to get our copies of the signed documents back from them. I have been emailing them since August regarding our copies and they have not responded at all (so far have sent them 3 emails and called few times as well). To top it off, they made a spelling mistake on a title document. The name on the land title is incorrect, so that is another headache we have to deal with.

Based on our experience, we will not recommend this firm.

Don't waste your time even reaching out to them. I've called and emailed and been completely ignored. I even walked in (to the South location) without an appointment, been handed a business card with two email addresses written on it. I emailed them both a detailed message about my situation and was ignored by one person and the second person's email address must have been written down incorrectly by the receptionist because I got an automated bounceback. What a complete waste of time!
